Three things give this new release a lot more strength and impact than their previous Sugar Hill album. The strong lead singing of new member Junior Sisk, a good selection of songs, and the wonderful fiddling of quest Ronnie Stewart. Building around the always excellent playing of Terry Baucom on banjo and Alan Bibey on mandolin, the group really rises to its potential on the 13 cuts heard here. With another new comer – Ed Biggerstaff – singing tenor, the band features a powerful quartet sound which is put to fine use on 6 gospel pieces, including the acapella SHIFTING SANDS and two superior songs that feature just mandolin & guitar accomp. MY LORD’S GONNA SET ME FREE and HE BROKE THE CHAINS. Bibey contributes a dazzling instrumental in VANDIVER. Solid from start to finish, this is a fine album of solid, hard-driving North Carolina style Bluegrass. COME ALONGS WITH ME, ROCK HEARTS, THE FIDDLER, PRAYER BELLS OF HEAVEN, GONNA TRAVEL ON, LIVIN’ IT UP, etc.
