As the notes to this CD state, Jimmy Martin was indeed in his prime when these 10 songs were taped off the KWKH Louisiana Hayride Radio show over a two year period. At the time Martin had what is generally considered his best band ever, with Paul Williams on mandolin & singing tenor, and J.D. Crowe on banjo. The sound quality of these recordings is not the greatest (it’s adequate), but there’s a lot of energy here, and it’s obvious that both the band and the Hayride crowd are enjoying themselves greatly. There has not been much on record of Jimmy Martin live, and this is an interesting and welcome release from a new record label.
