Del McCoury and his superb band are at the very top of their game today (as a matter of fact they’ve been there for several years now), and this new album for their own label is another generous helping of hard-driving, cutting edge Bluegrass. Although their music is 100% traditional (at least in every respect except repertoire), they are finding an increasing acceptance among a young & contemporary audience too. The 14 songs here are all new to Bluegrass, with the exception of I CAN HEAR THE ANGELS SINGING (from the Reno & Smiley songbag), but regardless of its source each one sounds as if it was tailor-made for Del and his band. Del’s singing is as great as usual, and there’s lots going on behind it with superior work from Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Jason Carter on ffiddle, Rob McCoury on banjo and Mike Bub on bass. Fine, state of the art Bluegrass here!
